They are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are: London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast. London is also the capital of the UK. The population of the UK is nearly 58 million people. English is the official language. The British nation consists of the English, the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish.

Pupil2. Great Britain is washed by the North Sea, the Irish Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. The UK is separated from Europe by the English Channel. There are many rivers in Great Britain. The largest cities of the country are London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow, and Belfast.

Pupil 3. Great Britain is a country with old cultural traditions and customs. The most famous educational centres are Oxford and Cambridge  Universities.    The United Kingdom is a monarchy and the Queen is the head of the state. But in practice it is ruled by the elected government with the Prime Minister at the head. The British Parliament consists of the two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

Teacher. Look at the map. Find mistakes. Correct them.
Example. Cardiff is not a capital of the UK. Edinburgh is a capital of the UK.

England is the largest and the richest country of Great Britain. The landscape is varied. The climate is warmer than in other areas. The capital of England is London but there are other large industrial cities, such as Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and other famous and interesting cities such as York, Chester, Oxford and Cambridge. Stonehenge is one of the most famous prehistoric places in the world. This ancient circle of stones stands in Southwest England. England can be divided for four parts: the Southeast, the Southwest, East Anglia, the Midlands and the North of England.

Pupils read from the textbook text “Madame Tussod”

Pupil. Scotland

Scotland is one of four parts of the GB. Its symbol is a thistle; its patron is St. Andrew. The country is devided into Highlands and Lowlands. Most of the industry is concentrated in Lowlands, in the Clyde Valley. Glasgow is its largest and busiest town; Edinburgh is its capital. Scotland's area is more than half as big as England's. Though Scotland is a part of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland it still remains an individual country with its own traditions, customs, history and the way of life. It is a country with a unique culture full of ancient legends, bright contrasts and  mysterious castles.
